Surgical approaches to long bones and pelvis and plates application.

This course will focus on surgical approaches to the long bones and pelvis in dogs and cats. A series of lectures and videos will lead into wet labs using canine cadaveric specimens, where participants can practice surgical techniques such as Open Reduction and Plate Fixation, following AO principles for long bones and pelvic fractures patterns. Emphasis will be placed on implant selection criteria, plate contouring, reduction techniques, and soft tissue handling.

Following the exercises, participants will conduct X-ray assessments of the repaired bones, with feedback provided during collegial discussion sessions.
A unique feature of this course is the ability for participants to select the complexity of fractures and corresponding repair techniques based on their skill level, thanks to an
“à la carte” menu of options. Beginners can choose simpler midshaft patterns, while more advanced participants can opt for complex or comminuted patterns that will challenge their skills and enhance their learning experience.

Target Participants
This course is designed for both beginners with limited experience in fracture repair and more advanced surgeons seeking to challenge themselves and improve their skills. It represents an excellent opportunity for hands-on experience with cadavers allowing participants to apply what they learned in the AOVET Principles Course.
